a little bit of sunshine
Here are a few snapshots from my time in the States. I sure am missing the sunshine now that Christmas is over and the English winter has set in!
striving to be positive
"a day without laughter is a day wasted"
This quote, most often attributed to Charlie Chaplin, is an interesting one for me to think about as 2014 begins. The start of each year comes with an anticipation of all it may hold, the excitement of the possibilities to achieve, explore and grow, the prospect of resolutions that have not yet been broken. I know that this year is not going to be easy for me, particularly the first part of it, and as I face several challenges in getting to where I want to be in life it is so important that I aim to stay positive no matter what happens. So that will be my main goal for the year; I resolve to be happy during difficult times and focus on all the blessings that come my way, both big and small. And having a bit of laughter in each day seems like a good place to start.

Here's to 2014 and all it may bring..friday film
This photo was taken with a 4 lens 35mm camera. As this is my first roll of film from the camera, I had no idea how the photos would turn out as I was taking them. I have learnt that the plastic viewfinder sitting on top of the camera resulted in my framing being off and that the four photos are taken in a U sequence (which is only noticeable in photos capturing movement). Some photos have imperfections which turned out to be quite pretty. Overall, it was lots of fun to experiment with. The next roll will be more planned out, though I'm not sure what to use it for yet..
making the christmas cake
One of our oldest family traditions is baking the Christmas cake together. We do it every year somewhere between September and November..the time is increasingly dependent on when we can get as many of us together as possible! We always play Christmas with Nat and Dean, sing loudly and dance around the kitchen. Then we make wishes and stir the batter for the video camera. I appreciate each year I am able to join my family for this fun tradition and I can't wait to spend Christmas with them all.
